In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF is the main and most effective infertility treatment procedure

This is the process of extracting ova (eggs) from the ovaries, fertilizing them, and culturing the resulting embryos in the laboratory. Fertilization occurs by placing ova (eggs) into a nutrient rich media with sperm to allow the sperm to fertilize the eggs. The ensuing embryos are transferred into the uterine cavity.

Stages of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF):

  • In order to grow the follicles, the woman’s body is stimulated with special medications;
  • After the follicles are grown to the optimal size, the follicular fluid together with the eggs are removed from the woman’s body using a puncture needle. The procedure takes place under  general anesthesia. It’s called and ovarian puncture (OPU) or egg retrieval procedure;
  • The embryology team places the prepared sperm and oocytes retrieved from the follicular fluid into a nutrient medium. The embryos created as as a result of the in vitro process are cultivated in the lab for 3-6 days;
  • The embryo of the best quality is transferred to the uterine cavity;
  • If there are any embryos remaining, they are vitrified (frozen) for the future use;
